Milagres School started with classes I to V form in vernacular language and later in the year 1929, July 23 was accorded permanent recognition as an independent Secondary Institution by the Director of Public Instructions, Madras.
Considering the need of having an English Medium school for boys in the city the then Headmaster Rev. Fr. Charles Aranha applied for permission to open English Medium parallel sections and was granted permission to open Std. I with order no. E7(a)(E12) 75526-221/64-65 dated 29.06.1965 in consideration of the recommendation by the Deputy Director of Public Instructions, Mysore. Subsequently permission to open sections for Std. II to VI, order no. EM(a) 13685-140/65-66 dated 08.07.1965 was granted . In the following year permission was accorded to open Std. VII with order no. (EMCB) 1287 216/66-67 dated 20.09.66. The school functions under the Catholic Board of Education, under the local management of Milagres Church.
We as Milagreans are proud to say that it is the second oldest Institution in this growing city of Mangalore located at the heart of the city and blessed abundantly by our Institutional Patroness “Our Lady of Miracles”. It has a glorious history in imparting qualitative education. The school is a Christian Minority Institution and attracts students of all caste and creed from far and near and aims at the holistic development of every student that enters its portals.
Milagres English Medium Higher Primary school has progressed and grown under the mentorship of eminent educators. Our Correspondents and Principals have been a source of strength and inspiration, rendering all their support to take us forward in this Educational mission of ours. At present Bishop of Mangalore Rt. Rev. Dr.Aloysius Paul D’Souza is our Management Committee President, Rev. Fr. Gerald D’Souza, Secretary of Catholic Board of Education, Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Correspondent, Milagres English Medium Higher Primary School, Rev. Fr. Michael Santhumayor, Campus Administrator, Milagres Institutions and Mrs. Elveera Lasrado, Headmistress, Milagres English Medium Higher Primary School.
At present Primary section has classes I to VII with a student strength of 700. Since 2011 it has both boys and girls in its prestincts and a conducive growth environment exists here.
Students participate in curricular and co-curricular activities. Our students have participated in school and interschool competitions and have won many laurels be it music, dance, drawing, art, clay modeling, rangoli, karate or quiz. Celebration of national festivals, feast of our patroness, religious festivals kindles in them patriotism, love for fellow beings and a sense of belonging to their Alma Mater. The Scout & Guides movement, karate, athletics, gives a feeling of being alive and active. The school has a Alumni Body that helps in bonding. Annual day, sports day, picnics are held annually. The school has its own magazine “Milagres marvel”.
Good playground with basket ball, Volley ball and tennis court, a well stocked library, computer lab with NIIT curriculum and science labs, smart boards, SMS facility with ERP system, a mini hall is made available to students. Coaching in studies for weak students and in sports, training is given after class. Informative talks are arranged for students. Teachers attend orientation programmes. Students are exposed to field trips.
The progress of all our endevours depends on the goodwill, cooperation, support and constructive suggestions of our Managing Committee members, the PTA association, parents and well wishers. With all the cooperation we wish to march forward focusing on the education of children put into our care.
