PTA Meeting Report

The general PTA meeting of the Academic year 2024-2025, from grade 1st to 10th was held on 10/08/2024 at 9.00am at Milagres Degree College auditorium.
The meeting commenced with a brief overview of the agenda and general instructions by teacher Mrs Melita Fernandes. Members were reminded to maintain decorum. The meeting began with a prayer led by the students and teachers. The prayer aimed to invoke a sense of unity and purpose among all attendees.
The welcome address was delivered by teacher Mr Arnold Dsilva, who greeted all participants warmly and expressed gratitude for their presence. The speech highlighted the importance of the PTA’s role in fostering a supportive educational environment. Sister Dorthi introduced the guest speaker Mrs Cecilia Farida Goveas, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Economics, School of Social Work, Roshini Nilaya, Mangaluru.
A detailed presentation on positive parenting was given by Cecilia Farida Goveas. Key points included:
- Techniques for fostering healthy relationships between parents and children.
- Strategies to encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
- The impact of effective communication and supportive environments on child development.
- Understanding parental privileges and responsibilities.
- Spending quality time with children.
- Parents role as mentors and role models.
- Grooming child in behaviour manners.
Teacher Mrs Vejetha introduced the second speaker of Abacus and Vedic Maths, Mr Gururaj Hegde. Mr Gururaj Hegde, presented on the benefits of Abacus and Vedic Maths in enhancing students' mathematical skills. The discussion covered:
- How Abacus helps in developing mental calculation abilities.
- The role of Vedic Maths in improving speed and accuracy in problem-solving.
- Practical applications and success stories from schools implementing these methods.
- Demonstration with Abacus tool.
-Speaker taught few basic exercises.
The Principal, Rev Fr Joesph Uday Fernandes, in his message he highlighted important points to the attendees. The talk emphasized, providing updates on school progress, basic guidelines regarding students discipline, haircut, personal hygiene, suggested not to send junk food during recess time, special care during rainy days, informed the parents that each child should get raincoat or an umbrella to keep them dry and comfortable during outdoor activity and
upcoming initiatives.
The President of the PTA, Rev Fr Bonaventrue Nazareth, Manager, Milagres Educational Institutions, delivered the presidential address. Key highlights included:
- Acknowledgment of the contributions of PTA members and volunteers.
- Encouragement for continued collaboration and engagement.
- Informed about the closing of Milagres High School.
- Upcoming initiatives from management in our school regarding introduction of Nursing
college.
- Provision of new infrastructure facilities, installation of new cameras and school campus building painting.
The vote of thanks was presented by teacher Mrs Jacinta DSouza who expressed
appreciation to all speakers, participants, and organizers. Special thanks were extended to those
who contributed to the success of the meeting.
The meeting concluded with the national anthem, led by teachers, which was sung collectively
by all attendees, reinforcing a sense of community and patriotism.
